Anything Goes CharactersReno Sweeney: A celebrated Nightclub singer and former Evangelist. Must have a “brassy” personality, a strong belt, great comic timing and Tap! Billy Crocker: A quick-witted young businessman who is always on the go and hopelessly in love. Must have great comedic timing, strong dance ability and a lyrical voice. Hope Harcourt: The young debutant who is engaged to the wrong man. A strong legitimate soprano, some dance ability, sweet personality. Sir Evelyn Oakleigh: A “prissy” English Gentleman. Proper on the outside but a Tiger inside! Eccentric comic timing and character singing. Moonface Martin: A comic gangster disguised as a preacher! Lots of physical comedy. Featured comic singing. Must have high energy! Erma: A comic gun moll traveling with Moonface. Must be perky, have a fun comic voice, strong singing belt and fantastic dancer! Mrs. Evangeline Harcourt: Hope’s mother and a silly snob. She is often confused yet a force to be reckoned with. Speaking role, no solo singing Elisha J. Whitney: Billy’s Wall-street boss. Has a strong comic desire to drink (i.e. silly Lush). Mostly speaking role. Some featured singing. The Angels (Chastity,Purity,Virtue,Charity): Reno’s traveling back-up singers and showgirls! Must have a strong voice, great personality and be an excellent tapper! The Sailors: A strong singing group featured vocally throughout the show. Possibility of a featured vocal quartet of sailors. Must be able to move well, tapping a plus. Captain: The firm captain of the “S.S. American”. Mostly a speaking role, can also be member of singing chorus. Singing audition recommended. Purser: Captains right hand man. Mostly a speaking role. Bishop Henry T. Dodson: A well respected missionary. Very full of himself. Mostly a speaking role. Will also be a passenger. Luke and John: Two Chinese Christian converts. Silly comic speaking roles. May also be members of the singing ensemble. (Can be played by Women) Passengers: All sailing on the S.S. American. Some speaking roles, mostly singing and dancing.
